I was recently contacted by Jodie and Phillip who were interested in hiring my Pop Up Studio / Photo booth to entertain their wedding guests throughout the day. Jodie had some very clear ideas about how she wanted the backdrop for her photo booth to look however and wanted to know if it was possible I could create her a custom photo booth background for their wedding.
I must admit that this is something that I do enjoy doing and my girlfriend is extremely creative and normally helps me out, so I was more than happy to create something to meet their needs.
The couple had seen an image they wanted to base their own on, which turned out to be a lot of flowers on a grassy background, so here’s how we did it and how much it cost.
- 2m x 2m Astroturf from B&Q – £40.00
- 40 artificial flowers from Dunelm – £40.00
- Total for custom backdrop – £80.00 & a bit of graft.
We hung the AstroTurf up from the photography backdrop frame I already have and noticed as we were doing so that it had hundreds of little holes in it, which turns out to be its drainage system for when it rains. You couldn’t see the holes in the photographs so no problem there and it turned out that the stems of the artificial flowers we bought slid right through the holes holding them in place. We had planned to safety pin them up, but it turns out they weren’t needed.
From there it was simply a matter of designing the shape of the flowers which I left to my lovely creative other half. She created a frame of flowers around the edges of the shot knowing that the guests would put themselves in the middle if the frame. I’m really pleased with how the end photo’s turned out and we now have a new backdrop available for our other clients to use should they wish.
The photographs in this post were taken as we were setting the backdrop up. It turned out to be a beautiful wedding in the historic market town of Oundle and we captured some great images of the guests having fun in front of our custom backdrop.
