Derek Redmond, Roger Black, John Regis & Kriss Akabusi Photograph

Whilst browsing some older photographs today I came across a shot I took with Derek Redmond, Roger Black, John Regis, and Kriss Akabusi as part of a photo-shoot I did earlier this year titled ‘4 Men Went to Mow’. The shoot was for Briggs & Stratton to mark the launch of InStart, apparently the easiest starting system ever for petrol powered lawn mowers.

On the day we decided that we’d have a go at recreating the iconic photograph of the four of them celebrating Great Britain’s gold medal win in the 4 x 400 metres Relay final at the 1991 World Championships held in Tokyo, Japan at the Olympic Stadium.

This was just a bit of fun and not mean’t to be taken too seriously, I only knew when I arrived at the event that the four of them we’re there and whilst we didn’t have a grand stadium to serve as a background, I’m pretty pleased with this off the cuff shot.

This isn’t my usual styling for a photo, I’ve desaturated the colours a little, added in some grain and a matt finish to make the photo look a little more aged from the era of the original.

A big thanks to Derek Redmond, Roger Black, John Regis, and Kriss Akabusi for being absolute stars on the day, they were a pleasure to work with and didn’t even complain when it started hailing down on them stood in their shorts… nicely done gentleman!

OMG I remember this photograph so well, it was in all the newspapers at the time and such a big story! Great job recreating it Paul, looks like you had a lot of fun in the process 🙂
