Description
Take Control Of Your Photography With Professional Photographer Paul David Smith.
Learning how your camera actually works and understanding aperture, shutter speed and ISO (also known as the exposure triangle) are key skills anybody looking to progress with their photography should learn.
If you have ever tried to read your camera manual or perhaps you have watched YouTube videos in order to learn, you might be finding yourself somewhat confused still as it is often made out to be far more difficult than it actually is. Paul has been teaching people how to shoot in manual mode on their camera since 2008 and has taught hundreds of people how to do it in just a single day.
You may not feel it, however you are far smarter than your camera and when you start to take full control, putting in your own settings, this is when your images start to improve dramatically because your camera simply doesn’t know what is happening in front of it and in an auto mode, it often gets it wrong.
This one day course is designed to break down all the technical jargon and just teach you what all the buttons and functions on your camera actually do and how you will use them on a day to day basis.
This is a small group course and Paul will find time throughout the day to work with you all on a 1-2-1 basis to ensure he answers your own specific questions related to your camera.

Can You Recommend Camera Equipment For Me Prior To Me Attending?
I get a lot of requests for help with camera equipment recommendations, almost daily in fact and offer a Personalised Photography Equipment Recommendation service which you can find by clicking here.
Recommending a camera and the best lenses to buy really has lots of different factors involved in it which need to be investigated first such as what the equipment will be most used for, budgets, your expectations on image quality, your current level and aspirations, etc. Hence the above service so we can really drill down into finding you the best equipment.
Alternatively, some people attend my courses and borrow a camera from me for the day to do so, we can then incorporate this recommendation as part of the course at no extra cost. The benefit of doing it this way is that I have a lot of cameras and lenses you can try and see the difference between prior to purchasing anything. The downside is your not learning on your own equipment of course, so there are pluses and minuses to doing it both ways, it depends on what you think works best for you.

Paul is a great teacher, he handled the group remarkably well ensuring everybody’s questions were answered and that they had fully understood what he was teaching. I learn’t so much on this course I would very highly recommend it.

If your wondering whether it’s possible to learn manual mode in a group setting whilst getting enough of the teacher’s time to actually ensure you understand it, well Paul has somehow figured out a way to make it work. We had a really good group, everyone got involved and Paul created an environment where asking questions was very welcomed. By the end of the course I was indeed in manual mode on my camera, understanding what aperture, shutter speed and ISO were and feeling like I’d remember it going forward too.

I joined Paul’s beginners photography course in Peterborough and was very impressed with the manner in which he teaches photography and manages to get a group of people all progressing at the same pace. Paul explained everything in a way we could all understand and was open to people asking questions throughout the course, taking the time not only to explain the answers but often grabbing his camera and showing it in a practical way which was great. I came with the aim of trying to understand aperture, shutter speed and ISO and I’ve never had it demonstrated in such a clear and precise way. The people in our group were all great as well, lots of laughs and fun along the way which really made it an enjoyable experience.

I wasn’t sure about joining a group training session as I’d had not so great experiences with other providers in the past where I didn’t get the individual attention I needed personally, but Paul just does it differently and it was superb. I knew from the moment he came in, shook everybodies hands and took the time to listen to what everybody waned to get out of the course that he really cares about people progressing their skills on his courses and his passion for photography is infectious.
The group size was sensible and whilst he taught the principles to everybody as a group, he then went around and worked with everybody 1-2-1 to ensure that they had understood what he had previously explained. He teaches the theory and then instantly gets you doing the practical which really cements in what he has just taught.
Paul is a fantastic tutor, he simplifies everything in an easy to understand manner and I’ll certainly be back to continue to photography learning with him.
