Are you ready to learn what your camera is really capable of when you take control and start making your own decisions? This 2 day course with professional photographer Paul David Smith will cover everything you need to know to start taking professional looking photographs.

Your camera’s auto mode just isn’t very smart and often doesn’t give you the image you had in your head. Blurry? Out of focus? Too bright or dark? Background blurred or not blurred how you want it? These are all issues people face in auto mode. This beginners photography course is designed to get you shooting in manual mode on your camera, using creative compositions and learning how to edit your images, all with a view to taking better photographs.

Day One

We’ll start this course by focusing on aperture, shutter speed and ISO. They call this the exposure triangle and it is the first place anybody hoping to take better images should start. When you take control of the settings that you are putting into your camera, you instantly get more consistent and professional looking images because you have made all of the decisions yourself.

Many people overcomplicate these settings and get lost with how to set them, Paul uses a simple system to setup his camera for every single photograph he takes. By putting your settings in using the same easy to remember formula each and every time this eventually becomes auto pilot and you just stop thinking about it, meaning you can concentrate on all of the creative areas of composition, storytelling and lighting knowing your settings are good to go.

Day 2

With your new found abilities to set your own aperture, shutter speed and ISO at the ready, we’ll look at the creative areas of photography such as composition, storytelling and lighting. Half of taking a good photograph is getting your settings right so the camera gives you want you want, the other half is what you as the photographer does with that camera in a creative manner.

Paul will teach you a range of composition techniques that professional photographers use and share with you a wealth of tips and tricks that will really help take the visuals of your images to new levels.

We’ll look at lighting your images using both natural light and external flashes to ensure you understand the fundamentals of how light works and how as a photographer it is your job to manipulate it in a creative manner to give you dynamic and interesting photographs.

Lastly we’ll also take a look at editing your images in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Paul will show you how he edits each and every image he takes in a simple, quick and professional manner. This ensures you spend more time out taking photographs where you’ll really improve as a photographer and less time sat at your computer.
