A bluntly honest and constructive critique of your photographs by professional photographer, Paul David Smith.
When it comes to improving your photographs through an honest critique, you can sometimes be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Your friends and family don’t want to hurt your feelings so they are likely to tell you your photos are great, even if they think otherwise. Similarly getting somebody with a wealth of photography experience to take the time to look over your images and give you good honest feedback, regardless of whether they love them or hate them isn’t easy to find.
This service is a very honest, very blunt and straight forward critique of your photographs. We’ll look at each of your images in depth, covering composition, lighting, storytelling, editing, subject matter and a whole lot more. The aim is to give you areas to look to improve your skill set.
Paul has worked a professional photographer since 2008 and critiques his own work in a very black and white way, he doesn’t beat around the bush and will tell you exactly what he thinks and why. If he loves your photos, he’ll tell you. If he doesn’t like them or thinks there are areas that they an be improved, he’ll tell you that too.
If you have ever wanted to know what people really think about your photographs then we’ve got you covered. This service though, perhaps isn’t for anybody easily offended!

Peter Rice –
I learn’t so much having Paul look over my photos for an hour and give his open and honest feedback. He’s very direct with what he likes and doesn’t like and clear with the reasons why. It left me able to improve my photos in a really transparent and easy to understand way.

When I said goodbye to Paul on the video call I felt a little bit beaten up, he wasn’t as positive about my photos as I’d hoped. But as I sat that evening thinking about all the constructive criticism I’d been given, I started to question if I actually disagreed with anything that had been said and it dawned upon me that I didn’t. It was hard to hear, having my best images (in my mind) picked apart at times wasn’t easy to hear, but I’d do it again without a shadow of a doubt. This is because Paul identified a lot of bad habits I have, pointed out areas where I knew I’d just been lazy and discussed other areas I just hadn’t thought about. Paul is very clear in his description of the service that he’ll just be honest and it was exactly what I needed.
